William Anthony Battaglia, of Torrance, passed away on November 1, 2013 in Los Angeles, California. William, or Bill to those close to him, was born in Buffalo, New York to Margarite DiMarco on July 9, 1949. He and his family moved out to California in 1960, where he lived permanently for the rest of his years. Bill entered the Marine Corps in Barstow, California in July of 1969. In his 4 years of service, he conducted one tour in Vietnam, became a drill instructor, and had many accomplishments, including recognition for Sharp Shooter, Good Conduct, and Leadership. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant in April of 1973 and continued to have a great love of his country and immense pride in his military service. Bill then entered Southwestern College in San Diego, where he made the Dean's List every semester. Bill worked as a Level 2 Non-Destructive Test Technician at West Coast Aerospace until 2010 and took great pride in his work and enjoyed mentoring other technicians throughout his years there. He was known as the "go-to-guy" and thoroughly enjoyed helping people. He also enjoyed golfing, going to the movies, and spending time with family. One of his greatest memories was volunteering at the hospital emergency room. William is preceded in death by his mother, Margarite and is survived by his wife of 26 years, Diane "Peaches" Battaglia; his brothers Michael (Rene) and Russell Battaglia; son Timothy (Tomoko) Battaglia; daughter Tammy (Rhea) Wedgeworth; four grandchildren, Mia and Cianna Battaglia and Anthony Sexton and Jonathon Finley; and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to his beloved friends and caregivers, Jaime and Fidelia Trujillo and the Country Villa Rehabilitation Center for their support in his final days. The memorial service will be held at Green Hills Memorial Park, Lake Site at 27501 South Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275 on November 16th at 11:00 am. A Reception will follow at the DoubleTree Hotel in Torrance at 21333 Hawthorne Blvd, Torrance, CA 90503. In Honor of William's love of his country, please feel free to wear red, white, and blue.
