John Findlay Graham
John Findlay Graham, 92, of Rancho Palos Verdes passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 3, 2014. A 63 year resident of Rancho Palos Verdes, he was born January 27, 1922 in Kirriemuir, Scotland to Charles Gertrude Graham. He was an avid lover of ships and the sea as a teen would often skip school to spend the day at the harbor, resulting in his enlistment in the British Merchant Marines. He went to sea at the young age of 15 years, serving throughout the end of WWII. During a ship repair in San Pedro he decided this would be a good place to raise his family. In 1950, he was joined by his wife, Lisbeth and daughter, Frances. John was employed by So. Counties Gas Co. for 34 years and was active with son David in the YMCA and the San Pedro High School Swim Team. Retirement years offered time to tinker in his workshop, travel the U.S., Scotland and New Zealand as well as spending time with friends and family. He is preceded in death by the love of his life, Lisbeth, son David Findlay Graham and brother Wilson. He is survived by his daughter Frances (Graham) Becker and daughter-in-law Anne. 5 grandchildren: Joseph Goss, Anthony Di Leva, Shannon (Cory) Bosy, Jarod (Thelma) Goss James Findlay Graham. 6 great grandchildren: Quinn, Cheyenne, Hayden, Mason, Talon and Jackson several nieces and nephews residing in the U.K. He will be deeply missed.
